Theo Walcott won't make Arsenal comeback against Tottenham

Theo Walcott is not setting a date for his Arsenal comeback, but has ruled out a return against Tottenham Hotspur later this month.

England international Walcott has been sidelined since early January after damaging his cruciate ligament in Arsenal’s FA Cup third round win over Spurs at the Emirates Stadium.

Reports had claimed that the winger could return to action when Arsenal play host to their north London rivals on Saturday 27th September, but Walcott will not feature in the derby.

“I haven’t put a specific date or looked at a game yet,” Walcott told The Sun.

“There were rumours of me coming back for the Spurs game which is definitely not going to happen, that’s for sure.

“I’m taking it week by week. It tends to fly by and it’s not months anymore, which is a nice feeling.”

Walcott missed Arsenal’s FA Cup final triumph last season, which ended a wait of nine years for a trophy, and the 25-year-old hopes the club can now build on the success.

The former Southampton youngster has been impressed by the summer signings of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, who scored both goals in England’s 2-0 win in Switzerland on Monday night.

“It’s exciting times,” added Walcott. “What we can build on from the FA Cup win is to attract these great players to the club. It will hopefully put Arsenal where we should be – winning trophies.

“Alexis has settled in very quickly and Danny is a good guy. I have worked with him for England he is a hard worker.

“He always puts his heart on the line. At times I have thought he needed to be a bit more selfish so I was very happy on Monday night with his England performance.

“That’s the one thing he has changed and he will get more goals, unless he sees me in a good position of course!

“I don’t know what plans the boss has got but hopefully this will push us on and increase the level of competition. There’s a massive buzz around the club.

“When you see the amount of money that has been spent, it has been well documented over the years that we haven’t spent as much. But Arsenal are doing it the right way and spending it wisely.”
