See inside Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas' new £7m mansion as they patch up marital problems
It looks like things are back on track for the Oscar winners as they invest in a new home and rekindle their love
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have put their marital woes behind them and are taking a second shot by shacking up in a new mansion.
It was a massive shock when the Hollywood A-listers announced their trial separation just 14 months ago, but things are now looking up as the couple have splashed out £7million on a new house.
The newly reunited pair will be hoping to make a fresh start and rebuild their 13-year marriage in the plush Bedford Hills area of New York reports Wales Online.
The Oscar winners seem to have made up their differences are looking forward to a new beginning in a new home which they will likely live in with their two children Dylan, 13 and Carys, 11.
They are believed to have sold their colonial style 6,000 sq ft Guard Hill Road home with its grand hallway entrance for $7.5m in favour of a $11.2m mansion which is more than twice the size at 15,458 sq ft with eight bedrooms, 18 baths, equestrian facilities, magnificent gardens, a greenhouse, a tennis court and a large swimming pool.
The interior has been renovated, mixing sleek, new appliances with historic mouldings and woodwork.
Other features of the home include a spa, two indoor pools, a gym, sauna and steam room.
The house also has an exquisite kitchen, greenhouse and a garage said to be “worthy of a car collector”.
Considered by estate agents one of Westchester County’s most illustrious properties, the 19th-century estate on West Patent Road, which like their previous home is in the exclusive Guard Hill Estate, also features a large hallway entrance and dramatic staircase.
It is described as “a breathtaking, stately mansion”.
The new home should be the perfect place for Zeta Jones and Douglas to celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary on November 18 after their much publicised temporary split.
The trial separation came at a time when the 70-year-old actor was diagnosed with mouth cancer and Catherine was battling with bipolar disorder.
In August last year their publicists issued this statement: “Michael and Catherine are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”
However, earlier this year, the pair, who married in the New York Plaza Hotel in 2000, got back together with Douglas saying in a magazine interview: "Like a lovely orchid, or anything else that’s nurtured, marriage prospers and grows, but if it’s ignored, it withers.”
The new Zeta Jones–Douglas home is near horse stables so beloved by the actress and also has an old four-stall horse barn on the site that hasn’t been used for many years.
Douglas, 70, who won Oscars for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) and acting in Wall Street (1987), and his 45-year-old Swansea born wife, who won a supporting actress Oscar for the film version of Chicago (2002), have a large portfolio of homes.
It includes a swish pad in the Colorado ski resort of Aspen, a luxury apartment in Manhattan, a home in Mumbles, Swansea and one in Bermuda where Douglas’s mother Diana Dill grew up.
