Richie: Glasto, Is It Me You're Looking For?

BET AWARDS '14 - Press Room
Glastonbury organisers reveal Lionel Richie - the first artist confirmed for the 2015 festival - approached them about performing.

Confirming the first act playing at Glastonbury has been easy for festival organisers - it was Lionel Richie they were looking for.

The Motown legend will follow in the footsteps of Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton and Shirley Bassey by performing on the Pyramid Stage in the festival's Sunday teatime slot.

The gig will be the singer's first ever appearance at a UK festival.

Emily Eavis, the co-organiser of Glastonbury, said: "We are over the moon. We've had some amazing performances in the Sunday teatime slot over the years.

"He's got so many amazing songs, to see him perform here on the farm is just going to be wonderful."

The 150,000 tickets for next year's event sold out in just 26 minutes - even before the festival line-up has been revealed.

Richie said: "It has a phenomenal history and the alumni of artists who have previously played is incredible, so I'm honoured to be joining that club.

"It will be a really special moment for me and I can't wait to share it with everyone. I can now say 'Yes, I'm playing Glastonbury'."
