A man has been arrested for attempted feticide, after he tried to cause his pregnant girlfriend to miscarry through the use of herbal tea.

According to The Herald Bulletin, a pregnant woman called police on Christmas Eve, after two drinks she was served by her boyfriend smelled and tasted weird.

She told them that she had grown suspicious after the second drink, and so looked through her boyfriend's phone. She found searches for natural abortion remedies.

Police officers took the woman's boyfriend, Jarod Redbuck, to the station, where they were able to confirm that he had indeed been searching for natural methods of abortion. He told them that he was "not in a position to have children financially or mentally."

According to the police report, Jarod had purchased Clary sage, a herb that can lead to micarriage if consumed in the early stages of pregnancy. The woman was four weeks pregnant.

Thankfully, the hospital has confirmed that she is still pregnant, and the Clary sage she ingested has not caused her to lose her child. The health of the baby, however, and the effects that the herb may have had, have not yet been confirmed.

If convicted, Jarod could face between 3 and 20 years of prison.
