A jealous husband has been found guilty of murdering his ex-wife after discovering she had been using dating websites.

Lorna McCarthy, 50, was found stabbed to death by Barry McCarthy, 51, in the home they still shared in Gorleston, Norfolk, last September.

The couple had separated four months earlier after she ended their relationship, but they continued to live together and slept in separate bedrooms.

Following their separation, McCarthy discovered that his wife had been using dating websites. He confronted her about it and she agreed to close them down, Norfolk Police said.

But on September 27, they had an argument and she sent text messages to friends and family saying she feared for her life.

In one sent to her daughter, she asked her to call police if she did not hear from her the next day.

She added: "I'm quite serious as I really don't know what he is capable of these days."

Her daughter never received the message.

Later the next day, McCarthy handed himself into police, telling them he had killed his wife, Norwich Crown Court heard.

When officers went to their home, they found Mrs McCarthy in the back bedroom.

A post-mortem examination later revealed she had died from a stab wound to the heart.

McCarthy pleaded not guilty to murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility. But a jury today found him guilty of murder following a eight-day trial.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Durham said: "This was a horrific and brutal attack on a woman in her own home by a man she had spent 25 years of her life with.

"My thoughts go out to Lorna's family and friends, and I hope today's verdict will help bring them some comfort as they still try to come to terms with her tragic death."

McCarthy is due to be sentenced on May 1.
