Joni Mitchell in 'intensive care' after being found unconscious at her home

Iconic folk singer Joni Mitchell was rushed to hospital yesterday after being found unconscious at her home.

The news was shared with fans via her Twitter page on Tuesday afternoon, in a brief message which stated that Joni had been "hospitalised" earlier that day, although little more was known about her condition.

It was later announced that the 71 year old musician was in "intensive care undergoing tests" at an LA hospital, "awake and in good spirits" after apparently regaining consciousness during the ambulance ride once paramedics had been called to her address.

It's not yet known what caused the emergency, and Joni has long been known to be particularly private about her personal life, often staying inside her home without venturing out for long periods of time.

Last year she revealed in her memoir that after suffering years of distress she'd been diagnosed with Morgellons disease, a rare condition considered psychological which made her believe parasites were living underneath her skin.

Since the announcement of her hospital stay was made, Twitter has been flooded with tributes from dedicated and concerned fans sending prayers and well-wishes for the groundbreaking artist.
